Ride report by Simeon Orme Cycling for me is what see on the ride, it does matter how far you go, you can see some interesting things growing and flowering in the hedgerows, a few miles from your home in most places in the UK. Yes I will hold my hand up and say I quite lucky to live in North Lancashire with four national parks on the door step. It was last day of week’s holiday off work, the weather gods had decide its was good day to go cycling, had not been to Clapham for a few months, so pointed the bike in that direction and headed up the Lune Valley, following the usual route along the cycle path to just pass Bull Beck Bridge, then turning on to A683 for the next three miles before heading along the B6480, when I see that tree at side of the B6480 near Butt Yeats with Ingleborough in the background dominating the landscape, the ride as really has started for me, its pity that the cycle path does extend further up the Lune Valley to encourage more local folk to leave the four wheel motor vehicle at home and go exploring on two wheels. Once you get pass Butt Yeats, there a bit of bump in the landscape which you have climb up before you head into Wray and off the busy B6480. Yes I know its very difficult for me to cycle pass the Bridge House Farm Tearooms, this was my third visit of the week and yes I am still on the sugar diet so it was coffee and sausage bun for me. After my brew stop, I follow the tarmac up to Mill Houses, then headed up Russells Lane, then after about good mile I turn on to the Old Moor Road where you keep glimpses of Ingleborough, after another good mile I cross over the Long Lane, then headed along the Cross Road, after few minutes of pedaling on to that cyclist’s motorway which most local cyclist’s call Mewith Lane, yes it changes it name several times on map but its nice quite route away from the idiots who still think they on the M6, has drive their motor vehicles up the B6480 to the Yorkshire Dales National Park, I do think we need culture change in this country of leaving car at home at weekends and use public transport or two wheels to go exploring. Anyway Mewith Lane is quite route, you get scenic views of both the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Yorkshire Dales National Park, has you pedal along lane, its a bit up and down route has you follow the lane to the cross roads at Dubgarth Hill, where I turn off this cyclist’s motorway and headed down to Clapham Station where stop to take some photos of the Aubrieta flowering on the walls next to Wenning Bank Bridge. From Clapham Station its fairly easy ride into Clapham using the underpass under the A65. I stop for some lunch at picnic table in the National Parks Car Park in Clapham. Then after my late lunch, I headed out of Clapham along the Old Road, yes I was quite please with my self for pedaling up all the climbs on this road with getting off and yes did reward myself with a treat at the Seasons Cake Shop in Ingleton, its about the only time when sugar free diet lapses on long cycle ride. The cake shop does indoor and outdoor seating. After my coffee break in Ingleton, I crossed over the A65, then headed along Tatterthorne Lane and then along Dumb Tom’s Lane, then down Raven’s Close Brow back into North Lancashire where stop for eat up on the village green by the River Wenning in Wennington which is nice place to seat on bench and watch the river flow by. After my stop, I followed the tarmac along the B6480 into the Lune Valley where turn on to A683 for that three miles down the Lune Valley to start of cycle path which followed back to Halton Station.
