The ride report by Simeon Orme After last week’s I thought it would a good ideal to put gravel tyres back on the gravel bike, has I am thinking of doing more off-road adventures on this bike this year and after looking on Amazon choose two Fincci 700 x 38C P1265 tyres. At around £44 on Amazon for pair of tyres from British company, you can find more information about Fincci tyres on their website at this link. Also added a link to Fincci website in the useful information section on this website. Also if you notice those bright yellow lobster gloves in the past few photo reports they come from Danish company call GripGrab via Mr Amazon, they are wind prove and do stand up to a bit rain, its worth looking around their website as they specialise in cycling essentials like over shoes and socks etc. If you got Prime membership it maybe cheaper to buy via Amazon and it come the next day. Anyway I was like excited little school boy to see how these new tyres bear up on the ride, has headed out of Halton along Kirkby Lonsdale Road and yes I did stop again for sausage bun at Saddles Cafe again like did on last Sunday ride to Babon Manor Wood. After my refueling stop at Saddles Cafe, I spend next several miles pedaling along the B6254, if you into cycling and live in North Lancashire it something you get use doing and about fifty minutes later I was crossing over the A65 and into that honeypot called Kirkby Lonsdale, I did not hang about long only to stop to take that photo looking down Mitchel Gate which did taken few minutes to take due the number of cars which kept coming down the road. I was soon heading out of Kirkby Lonsdale along the B6254 towards Kearstwick where it worth stopping by the bridge in this large hamlet to admire the sculptures in the garden by the bridge, I did notice that was sign on cottage which the garden belong to that some of the sculptures were for sale. One aims of today’s ride was stop at Fleshbeck Wood and checkout if the Bluebell were in full bloom, I was about week to early but if mange visit it at right time of the year when the Bluebells are flowering it is one those special places that us locals who live in the Lune Valley like to enjoy, I did manage get photo of Bluebell flowering. With that mission done, I followed the lane through the hamlet of Fleshbeck and on to Rigmaden Park where The Otter House dominated the landscape in this part of the Lune Valley. I was turning on to the bridleway up to Kitmere, the main reason for doing this bridleway is to see the Rododendrons were in flower but again I was few weeks to early, there nothing special about this bridleway you can ride bits on Gravel bike but if ride it all you need a mountain bike which may prove test for rider in few places on the track especially section crossing the steam in Park Wood but for me I am quite happy to push my bike along the track and enjoy the landscape. I was soon back on the tarmac again and following The Old Scotch Road to Hills Quarry where stop to enjoy my pack lunch. After lunch break, I followed the lanes around Hutton Gate and then through Homescales, it was fairly fast route down to Gatebeck with not much pedaling, there was a bit pedaling to do on small climb out Gatebeck but it another fast ride down to A65 near Crooklands. After crossing over the A65, I followed lanes through Millness for refueling stop at Farleton View Tearooms. After enjoying the sunshine outside the tearoom, there was short section on A6070 before following the lanes through Farleton and into Holme where join the towpath of Lancaster Canal which prove real test for new tyres which I think they passed with flying colours. It quite enjoyable ride to followed the canal towpath from Holme down to Tewitfield, there are few benches along the route and use one for eat up. I spend good hour before hitting the tarmac again at Tewitfield, then followed Kellet Lane and lanes back to Halton.
