Ride report by Simeon Orme It look it was going to best day of the week for weather, so I decide to go have ride out and visit the Wild Daffodils in Brigsteer Park which are one natural wonders in this part of Northern England and most folks who drive along the lane through the woods which own by the National Trust do not realize that the Daffodils are there! My day started with the climb up Arrow Lane out of Halton which I have notice has a lot easier do, as the weeks roll further into 2023. Once you get pass Arrow Barn, the name of the lane changes to Scargill Road, then just one small climb before its a easy ride down to coast before that did happen there photo stop on Long Dales Lane to take photo of the Blackthorn flowering at side of Lane. After made my way through Neither Kellet, I headed out of the village along Back Lane, which is fairly fast road down to Carnforth where folk going about their daily busy of going to work or school has cycle through this old railway town. I headed out of Carnforth, along Crag Bank Lane before crossing over River Keer via cycle / foot bridge near Hagg Wood. Then followed the public byway up to the New Road which followed through Crag Foot and across Leighton Moss before stopping for morning coffee at the Leighton Moss Cafe at the RSPB Visitor Centre. You could tell that Mother Nature was starting to wake up from Winter sleep with the number of plants starting to bud and flower in the Visitor Centre Wildlife Garden. I was back peddling my bike along Red Bridge Lane which soon turn into Ford Lane, then there a bit climb through Waterslack, the lane levels out after you pass Challan Hall and then fairly easy ride follow tarmac through the woods. I was soon turning on to Coldwell Lane and then followed Storth Road into Storth, then headed through the village and through sister village of Sandside. In Sandside, I turn on to Park Road where notice that white violets were flowering at side of the road unfortunately for me the motor traffic was a bit to busy to stop and take photo but made up for this later on in the ride. I think the white violets are the white form of Sweet Violets. I continue peddling along Park Road until cross over the River Bela via Milnthorpe Bridge, then I turn on to the Marsh Road, which followed it across Milnthorpe Marsh to the A6. Then usual section on the A6 around Levels Hall which notice that the cafe at hall is open seven days a week. I was soon heading along Sampool Lane to High Sampool where follow the tarmac bridleway to Sampool Bridge where cross over the A590. Then headed along the Old Road before following the Brigsteer Causeway into Brigsteer. I headed out of Brigsteer along Parkend Road, which is a bit of climb through the woods of Brigsteer Park where I stop to take a photo of the Wild Daffodils flowering at side of the lane. After the photo stop, I continue along the lane and late lunch stop in Levens. After my lunch stop, I followed Levens Lane down to the A6, then stay on it for next mile before following the lanes through Leasgill and Heversham. I headed out of Heversham along Woodhouse Lane where I stop to take the photos of the violets. After the photo stops, I followed the lanes around to Ackenthwaite where I cross over the B6385 and then followed the B6384 through the hamlet of Whasset, then recrossing the Bela via Hang Bridge and the following the Old Lane into Holme where dig up the road at end of North Road where got off the bike push pass the road works. From Holme, I followed the lanes through Hilderstone and Cinderbarrow to the A6070 which stay for small section before following Whitebeck Lane into Priest Hutton and then Borwick Lane into Borwick where I stop for eat up on the village green. I then followed the towpath of the Lancaster Canal out of Borwick to Capernwray where turn back on to the tarmac and then followed Capernwray Road into Over Kellet, then the lanes back to Halton.
