The cycling gods were not with me, on this ride, first after taking the photo of the sheep wool caught in the barb
wire I realized that left my water bottles at home. So I headed back down Scargill Road and Arrow Lane to pick
the water bottles. Yes it was nice feeling to ride back up Arrow Lane with out getting off to push the bike up the
lane.
After riding along Scargill Road, I stop again on Long Dales Road near the Quarries to take photo of
Blackthorn flowering in the hedge.
My big plan for day was to have ride out to Arnside, so after the photo stop, I followed the tarmac into Neither
Kellet, then head out of Neither Kellet along Back Lane.
Has I was freewheeling down Back Lane, I saw the zip on my jacket had not zip up probably so slow down by
the motorway bridge but unfortunately when over pot hole which caused puncture in the wheel.
Once change the inter tube and sort out the front derailleur, I decided it was not good ideal to carry on with the
ride, so headed back home to Halton and order from Mr Amazon, a new 700 x 35 mm Schwalbe Marathon tyre
which I have found offer better performance for cycle touring. My step dad the late Fred Lloyd was firm
believer of using combination of using 35mm tyre on rear wheel and 32mm tyre on the front wheel for general
cycle touring bike where you may do a few tracks on ride. I also decide to order Mr Amazon, a Mountain
Warehouse waterproof cycling jacket with lot better zip on it! Has I am Prime member, the new tyre and jacket
was deliver on the Sunday afternoon and hopefully there will be a lot less punctures in the coming months of
cycling.
