Walk report by Simeon Orme After pushing my bike along the bridleway in lower part of the Hutton Roof Crags Nature Reserve on last week’s ride, I got a bit more interest seeing the area on two feet and seeing what wild flowers were in full bloom. The only off-road parking for cars is at Plain Quarry in Dalton Crags an area manage by the Forest Commission where the Hutton Roof Crags Nature Reserve is manage by Cumbria Wildlife Trust. On Sunday morning car park soon fill up, once I had got my rucksack on, I had wander around the car park to get my bearings and spotted some Cowslips in flower, which I took a photo of, before out into woodland area, as its right to roam area there was maze of foot paths going off in different directions, so it was case of following your nose and head uphill until you see the boundary wall between Dalton Crags and Hutton Roof Crags Nature Reserve, then follow track up to summit of Hutton Roof Crags, which there some good views looking back to coast. Part way on walk up to summit, I had to stop to put on some water proofs due to heavy shower and mange to lose a filter storage bag which was click my rucksack and amaze to find it about hour later. Once I got to highest point in Dalton Crags, I wait a few minutes for the rain shower to pass before taking photo of panorama view looking back to the coast before continuing the track which soon turn into path once you pass through the gate into the nature reserve. Once you get to summit, there various paths leading off in different directions but its good ideal and stop and look at the view, before deciding which direction you wish to explore, I head off towards Hutton Roof before having to back track to find filter storage bag. After finding the filter storage bag, I followed the path back up to summit again and has another walker explain to me the art of navigate this area once get to summit, its case of following your nose and follow the paths back a cross the limestone pavement back to car park at Plain Quarry. If you more adventurous head towards Hutton Roof. I am not going to post the route that I took because I think it area that should be explore my you and I spend a few enjoyable hours exploring this area which was fun do as there no signposts telling you where should you go, if you interest in plants like I do, its interesting to see what’s in flower, I think its area, I will keep on re visiting.
