The view looking back along Kellet Lane
Ride report by Simeon Orme It took me around 45 minutes to get from Halton to the RSPB Visitor centre at Leighton Moss. After enjoying a coffee and piece of cake in the cafe, I headed into the small wildlife garden to see what was flowering in the garden. I was soon back on the bike again, heading along Red Bridge Road which soon turn into Ford Lane and after about mile of pedaling, I turn on to Cold Well Lane before following Storth Road through Storth and Sandside. Then there section on Park Road of just under mile before following the Marsh Road across Milnthorpe Marsh to the A6 for that section around Levens Hall. I was soon heading along Sampool Lane to High Sampool where turn on to the tarmac bridleway which followed towards Sampool Bridge, after crossing the A590, I made my way through Sampool Bridge which takes about minute of pedaling before turning on to cycle path which runs short distance along side the A590 linking Sampool Bridge with the old A590 which now a quite lane which is pleasure to ride along, I had about mile of pedaling before the lane into Mill Side where stop at bench for some lunch. After my lunch break, I followed the delightful quite lane up to Beckhead which home to Bunkhouse, after heading through the hamlet, the lane turns into bridleway which I did have get off my bike and push it along small section of the track, has I was on my road bike. I was soon back on the tarmac again following the lane up the valley towards Witherslack Hall where there steep sharp small climb to negotiate before following the lane through Low Park Wood which probably the best time of the year to ride along is in Spring when the Spring flowers are flowering or in Autumn when the leaves are turning. After following the tarmac through Pool Bank, I drop down into the Winster Valley and then followed the lane passed Cowmire Hall, then up to Bowland Bridge where there was a short section on Smithy Lane before turning on to the lane which I followed passed Haycote Farm where there was a bit of climbing to do has I followed the lane up the Winster Valley to Barthbooth, as there was rain in the forecast for later on in day, I thought it was time to start heading back, so followed the lane from Barthbooth over to Low Fell with brief stop at Barthbooth Lot Nature Reserve which is those places is best visited in the Spring or Autumn. After heading through the hamlet of Low Wray there was short section on the A5074 before following tarmac through Crosthwaite and on to Underbarrow. In Underbarrow there was short photo stop to get a photo of Harebell flowering at side Grigg Hall Lane before following the lane down the Lyth Valley into Brigsteer where there a bit of climb up Parkend Lane before dropping down into Levens. After pit stop at Levens Hall for coffee and cake, I followed my normal route back into North Lancashire and was surprise to get home dry.
