The ride report by Simeon Orme
Some how manage to catch a flu bug going around the greenkeeping team at work on the Friday, so on the
Saturday morning I was glad feel the benefits of getting the flu jab late last year but I feeling a little a bit ropy
on Sunday morning, one of the problems of having Type 2 Diabetes you need exercise often to keep the
condition under control, so told my self it was good ideal get out on the bike. My plan of pedaling up the Lune
Valley up the Crook O’Lune Bridge when out of the window and decide it would be good ideal visit Gait
Barrow National Nature Reserve, its one of those magical places that keep visiting.
It took me around 35 minutes to get to Saddles Cafe at the Red Well Country Inn, I was still feeling a bit ropy
but enjoy the coffee and the cake.
After the brew stop, I continue along the B6254 for short distance before turning on to Borwick Road, there a
bit climbing to do has you head through Lord’s Lot Wood but soon enjoying the freewheel down into the Keer
Valley.
Its a bit of up and down road, has followed Borwick Road into Borwick where turn on to Borwick Lane and
followed it into Priest Hutton.
I headed out of Priest Hutton along Whitebeck Lane with brief stop at the Whitebeck Green Nature Reserve
where I took a few photos of the wild flowers on this small nature reserve which is worth stop if you passing to
see whats flowering at this time of year.
Then I turn on to the A6070 for short section before heading along Cinderbarrow Lane, which follow into the
hamlet of Cinderbarrow.
From Cinderbarrow, I then headed along Hilderstone Lane and then Moss Lane where turn on to the A6 for
short section before following the lane across Hale Moss and White Moss to Thrang End Wood where turn on
to Brackenthwaite Road which followed around to near Challan Hall and start of bridleway/ footpath around
Hawes Water.
Yes you ride the first part of path around Hawes Water because its bridleway and then you have to get off push
bike around rest of path to Moss Lane because it footpath.
I had lunch stop at the Summer House, then did a few photos stops, has followed the path around Hawes Water
to Moss Lane where got back on the bike again.
At end of Moss Lane, I turn on to Red Bridge Lane which soon turn into Slackwood Lane, I then followed the
New Road across Leighton Moss through Crag Foot which is in parish of Warton, after good mile of pedaling, I
followed the public byway down to the cycle / foot across the River Keer near Hagg Wood.
After crossing over the River Keer, I turn on to Crag Bank Lane which I followed into Crag Bank then up to the
A6 which then cross over and then followed towpath into Bolton-le-Sands.
I head out of Bolton-le-Sands along Ancliffe Lane, I was soon turn on to Bottomdale Road which followed
back into Halton.
