Ride report by Simeon Orme With the morning cafe stop being a bit to busy for my liking this was down to it being Mother Day but I was soon heading out of Carnforth, crossing over the River Keer via the foot / cycle bridge near Hagg Wood. Then follow the public byway into Warton. In Warton, I turn on to New Road which followed for next few miles through Crag Foot and then across Leighton Moss before turning on to Slackwood for short distance before heading up the Row, I stop at Wood Well to take photo of the Well. After my photo stop, I carry on cycling along the Row, before turning on to Park Road and then on to Ford Road which followed through Waterslack and once you get pass Challan Hall there some good views of Hawes Water through the woods. After about good mile turn on to Cold Well Lane. Then after crossing over Leighton Beck via Creep-i’-th’call Bridge, I headed over the county border from Lancashire into Cumbria, I soon turn on to Storth Road which followed pass Hazelslack Tower Farm and into Storth and then on to Sandside. In Sandside, I turn on to the B5282 which I followed towards Milnthorpe, after crossing over the River Bela via Milnthorpe Bridge, I turn on to the Marsh Road which followed across Milnthorpe Marsh. After about good mile and half I was soon turning on that busy highway the A6 which this section of it is call the Princes Way. After crossing the River Kent via Levens Bridge, I stop for few minutes to follow the footpath through the wood for a few yards to take photo of Levens Hall and was quite surprise see Wood Anemones in flower. I was soon turn off the A6 and following the lane pass Low Levens Farm to High Sampool. Then the bridleway from High Sampool to Sampool. After crossing over the A590, I followed the Old Road and then Brigsteer Causeway up the Lyth Valley to Brigsteer. There a bit of climb to get into the Brigsteer due to that Lyth Valley only a few feet above sea level. I headed out of Brigsteer along Park Road and has started the climb through Brigsteer Park Wood, I spotted the first of Wild Daffodils in full bloom and stop to few photos of them. After finished the climb through the woods, if was fairly easy ride into Levens where I stop for some lunch. After my lunch break, I followed Levens Lane down to the A6 and cross back over River Kent via Leven Bridge. Then headed through Leagill and Heverham before following Woodhouse Lane out of Heverham. On Woodhouse Lane, I spotted some white Common Dog-Violets in flower and while I taking photos of the violets, a motorist stop ask if I was okay for some reason. After turnoff Woodhouse Lane, I followed Haverflatts Lane and then Kirkgate Lane into Ackenthwaite. I headed out of Ackenthwaite along the B6384 and like last week’s ride I followed the Old Lane into Holme. From Holme, its was case following the lanes through Hilderstone to Cinderbarrow. Then following Cinderbarrow Lane to the A6070 which stay on to I got to Tewitfield. From Tewitfield it was case following Kellet Lane towards Over Kellet for that climb back into Lune Valley and lanes back to Halton.
