Ride report by Simeon Orme The weather forecast for the ride was a repeat of last’s week ride for thunderstorms in the afternoon so the plan ride to Garsdale Bridge when out of the window because I am not fan of pedaling my bike through a thunderstorm and its not really good for your health. So it was case of getting a few hours of pedaling in and try get a few good photos for you to look at! The first part of the ride to Saddles Cafe at Red Well Country Inn from Halton is getting easier for me do and took about 35 minutes to do! Like most of my rides I was only person on the ride which is not problem for me now, has gives me more time taking photos and yes I did have coffee & cake sitting outside Saddles Cafe. In my defense its only time in the week that do eat cake where I am going to burn off all sugar that eaten on the ride. Its one of the many things you have think about when living with Diabetes Type 2 and come to conclusion that its bad for my health if don’t go cycling on Sunday. After enjoying the delights of the Saddles Cafe, I headed off along the B6254, after small climb it was fairly easy ride down to Arkholme where followed the lanes around Docker which is small hamlet in the most northern part of Lancashire before cross the border into the old county of Cumbria which now split into two Councils and must say that Westmorland and Furness Council is doing better job of filling pot holes in than Lancashire Council is doing and do notice difference when cross over the county border. There was short steep climb out of Docker which decided was good ideal to get off the bike and push it up the hill, after pedaling pass Keer Side another small hamlet, there was drop down into the start of the Keer Valley and then climb out of it which turn into walk pushing the bike up the climb due the botanical interest on both sides of the lane. So spent a bit time taking photos of the wild flowers. I soon crossed over the county border and followed the lanes around the Hutton Roof, yes I thought it would good ideal to turn on to Mill Lane which changes it name to Gallowber Lane once you cross over Sealford Beck, then follow the bridleway to Sealford Farm. Not brightest of ideals as last part of the bridleway was over grown and badly maintain. I think was second fool to push their way through this bridleway and think other person was on horseback. Once I got passed the overgrown section of the bridleway it was fairly easy ride along Sealford Lane which soon turn into Newbiggin Lane which followed into hamlet of Newbiggin. After passing through Newbiggin, continue pedaling along Newbiggin Lane which turn into Puddlemere Lane down the Lupton valley. I had short lunch break at side Puddlemere Lane before dropping down to Farleton where you could see the dark storm clouds coming off the Irish Sea, so it was time to headed for home, I nearly made home dry but had to put on the waterproofs at Kellet Lane Bridge.
