General Information: Galanthus elwesii is a robust, early-flowering bulbous perennial widely valued for its elegant winter blooms. Compared with the common snowdrop (G. nivalis), it is larger in stature and flower size. Leaves: Broad, glaucous to blue‑green leaves emerging in pairs, often noticeably wider than those of G. nivalis. Height: Typically 15–25 cm tall in bloom. Flowers: Nodding, pure white, solitary flowers with three outer tepals and three shorter inner tepals. The inner segments usually display a distinctive green mark, sometimes a single apical mark or paired basal and apical marks depending on the form. Flowering Time: Very early season, mid‑winter to early spring, often January to February in the UK. Growth Habit: Forms clumps over time; prefers partial shade and humus‑rich, moist but well‑drained soils.  Hardiness: Fully hardy across the UK; tolerant of cold winters. Special Notes: Highly variable in the wild and in cultivation, contributing to many named cultivars. Known for its pleasant honey-like fragrance
