Plant description: Clematis alpina 'Helsingborg' is a charming, deciduous climbing perennial valued for its elegant spring display and vigorous yet manageable growth. In mid to late spring, it produces an abundance of nodding, bell-shaped flowers in shades of  deep bluey-purple. The delicate blooms are followed by attractive, silky seedheads that provide additional ornamental interest well into summer.

This hardy alpine clematis climbs by twining leaf stalks and typically reaches 2-3 m (6-10 ft) in height, making it ideal for growing through shrubs, small trees, trellises, arches, or fences. Its finely divided green foliage creates a light, airy effect that complements the graceful flowers.

'Helsingborg' thrives in fertile, well-drained soil in sun or partial shade, with its roots kept cool and shaded. As a member of the Atragene Group, it flowers on the previous year's growth and requires little pruning beyond the removal of dead or damaged stems after flowering. Reliable, easy to grow, and highly attractive to pollinators, this cultivar is an excellent choice for adding early-season colour and vertical interest to the garden.

Pruning Group: One.
