Ride report by Simeon Orme I did not hang around at the Centre@Halton it was to good day waste drinking coffee in the coffee shop waiting to see if anyone would turn up for ride other than me and if want to come out on ride with me in future do let me know you are coming! I head out of Halton, across Halton Station Bridge, Lancaster University Rowing Club was out in force practicing on the River Lune. The old Halton Station buildings is one of those recycling project which don’t think much about, has most time that live in Halton, the Rowing Club as own the building. Anyway I followed the cycle path down the Lune Valley towards Lancaster and after few minutes of cycling time, I headed back over the River Lune via the Bay Gateway Bridge and then followed the bridleway along side the Bay Gateway towards Green Lane which I turn on to which is public byway which followed up to Bottomdale Road which I cross over to follow Ancliffe Lane into Bolton-le-Sands where I join the towpath of the Lancaster Canal which followed towards Crag Bank. On this section of towpath a bell on bike is very useful feature, has you tend to use it alot. Once got into Crag Bank, I cross over the A6 and followed Crag Bank Road through the village, then Crag Bank Lane out of the village. After good mile of lane work, I cross over the River Keer using the foot / cycle bridge near Hagg Wood and followed the public byway up into Warton. From Warton, I followed the New Road towards Crag Foot which is one main routes into heart of the Arnside and Silverdale ANOB, so please note there can a bit of motor vehicle traffic using this road. Once get pass Crag Foot and head across Leighton Moss, you know that you are in one those special places in England which is national park. Once followed the tarmac over Leighton Moss, I was drawn to the Leighton Moss Cafe at the RSPB Visitor Centre, it maybe something to do with 10 percent discount you get if you arrive there on two wheels instead of four wheels, after few months of not going to cafes my cake photography skills fail me but I did enjoy the chocolate fudge cake. After my cafe break, I did have look around the visitor centre wildlife garden and was surprise at number of plants still flowering. I left the visitor and headed along Red Bridge Lane and then turn on Moss Lane which took me one of entries in to the Gait Barrows National Nature Reserve which you could say is the heart of Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Beauty. One tip here, once the tarmac run out at end of Moss Lane dismount and push your bike along the footpath around Hawes Water and enjoy sounds of nature. You can get back on the bike part way around the tarn as footpath turns into bridleway. I did stop lunch break part way around tarn on bench before following path around Hawes Water and then up to Challan Hall Allotment where I rejoin the tarmac and headed along Brackenthwaite Road before the lane across Hale Moss. Then cross back over the A6, then followed Moss Lane over Burton Moss before turning on to Hilderstone Lane which followed into Cinderbarrow. I head out of Cinderbarrow along Cinderbarrow Lane to the A6070 which did short section on before following Whitebeck Lane into Priest Hutton. I should point out there small nature reserve along this lane is worth stop at in Spring to see the cherry blossom and the wild flowers in the meadow. From Priest Hutton along Borwick Lane into Borwick where the sun was just on the village green for some good photos. From Borwick, it was case of following Kellet Lane into Over Kellet and lanes back to Halton. You can click here download 26.2 mile route or click here to see where Simeon going on his bike.
