The ride report by Simeon Orme With the weather report for temperatures being around 30 c in the late afternoon, I thought the plan ride to Barbon was non starter, so I decided the best plan was to ride out to Saddles Cafe see if anyone would be mad enough to turn up for start of the ride. It about 35 minute ride for me now along Kirkby Lonsdale Road its something to do with not having to get off the bike and walk up some of the hills out of Halton which I had to do at the beginning of the year. Once get pass the juncture with Park Lane all the climbing out of Halton is done and its fairly easy ride to Saddles Cafe at the Red Well Country Inn where the cakes on par with those at the Bridge Houses Farm Tearooms In Wray. I think its good meeting point to start rides from and tend to take view you better off meeting up at cafe or tearoom has it give all the folk on ride chance to get know each other. Anyway I was the only taker for the ride which I was not surprise about, so after enjoying my coffee and cake, I decided to head along the B6254 towards Springfield where turn on to Borwick Road, after the climbing through Lord’s Lot Wood. I stop for my second photo stop of the day where continue play about taking photos in Av mode this time with my Pentax K-70 body and Tamron 90mm Macro Lens (I have been use Pentax K-3 III body and Pentax 50mm for those photos that I taken earlier on in the week for the July 2022 photo a day photo gallery), using F32 setting, with ring flash. I set the speed on auto between 100 and 3200 ISO and took macro photos with out using a tripod, on the hold I quite please with the results, I only delete about three or four photos which could be better taken on a tripod. One secret weapon that I use in editing is putting each photo through Topaz Labs DeNoise AI software which photo plugin, which clean picture quality if the photo taken at fast speed or poor light conditions. Anyway getting back to ride, I followed Borwick Road down into the Keer Valley and then out of it again. Has I was heading into Borwick, I pass rider on horse going the other way and the best policy here when you riding a bike is to say hello and have chat with the horse rider has you pass them. It help to keep the horse calm and if don’t do this you may find your self hitting the tarmac due the horse rider losing control, due to you scaring it! Also warm other cyclists that a horse and rider are up head along road so that them can slow down and pass then safely like I did has headed into Borwick . I was surprise to be call sir when they thank me. I headed through Borwick, which a delightful village green which if you in the area in April it worth detour to see all Spring flowering on the green. I turn on to the towpath of Lancaster Canal at Borwick Hall Bridge and stop a few times to take photo, has followed the towpath around Capernwray, where turn back on to tarmac and followed Capernwray Road into Over Kellet, then the lanes back to Halton, getting back home around 1pm. Hopefully the temperatures will a lot lower for next Sunday ride.
