7th January: A ride to Wennington ( Page two)

Ride report by Simeon Orme The route was nothing adventurous, it case of following nose and trying to stay on two wheels as some of side roads had not be gritted the night before. So I followed my usual route up to Wray, along the cycle path, then a few miles on the A683 and then the B6480 into Wray, then stopping at Bridge House Farm Tearooms in Wray, they did say I was there first customer of the day. Once I had finish my first coffee and cake of the year, I headed up the Hindburn Valley to Mill Houses and headed along Russells Lane before dropping down to Wennington ( I did walk last part of the lane down into Wennington). From Wennington, I followed Lodge Lane out of Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty before dropping down through Melling Moor into Melling which in area of the Lune Valley that is not in National Park (With the extension of the Lake District National Park and Yorkshire Dales National Park about two years ago about 70 percent of the Lune Valley is in some sort of national park). From Melling it was short section on A683 before dropping down in Hornby and back into Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, after crossing over Hornby Bridge, I soon stopping at Hornby Post Office Tearooms for more coffee and cake. After my cake stop, next few miles were on the A683 which can get busy with traffic but the views are outstanding as you are cycling through a National Park which us locals tend to forget about but once cycle through Claughton which famous for its brick works, I soon heading along the Lune Valley Cycle Path and ringing the bell on my bike at the dog walkers on the cycle path. Once crossed the two bridges on cycle path over the River Lune at the Crook O'lune, I headed out of the national park and soon crossing back over River Lune into Halton via the Iron Bridge.
