4th February 2018 ride to Greenodd (Page three)

Ride report by Simeon Orme I park the car at the small car park at Chapel House Wood near Staveley-in-Cartmel, after unloading the bike from car, I followed the cycle path along side A590 up to Ayside, then the old A590 through High Newton before stopping at Harry's Café Bar at Yew Tree Barn in Low Newton for my morning brew. The Sausage Roll that I had with my morning coffee kept me going for next ten miles. After my morning café stop, I headed through Low Newton and then followed the lane up to Newton Heads before dropping down to Four Lane Ends ( Please note lanes around High Newton have been alter in last few years due to bypass around Low Newton and High Newton if you following this route on older Ordnance Survey Map). From Four Lane Ends, I headed through Barber Green and then followed Please Close Lane down to Field Broughton. At Field Broughton, I started climb out of the Cartmel Valley, heading up through Field Broughton up to Barnsley Bottom where followed the lane from Outley Mosses down to hamlet of Stribers, then it was few miles on the B5278 into Haverthwaite. The B5278 can get busy at times with motorist but the views across the mosses to the coast are worth it! At Low Wood in Haverthwaite, I turn on to cycle path from Haverthwaite to Greenodd where stop a few times take photos of the views, its fairly easy cycle path to ride along, as mostly tarmac up Roudsea Wood, then hardcore up to Lady Syke, then follows the old railway line to Greenodd, then foot / cycle bridge over the River Leven, then under pass under the A590 and then track into Greenodd. From Greenodd, there short section on the A5092 to Penny Bridge where followed the tarmac down to Bridge End and then started climb out Crake Valley up to Hill Top where stop chat to guy building rams on bmx course which reminded me how many disciplines or sections that cycling as to other sports. From Hill Top, it was a bit up and down route to Bouth where the café at Old Hall Farm was still close for Winter, I was going to stop for lunch in Bouth but decide to continue on have brew and cake at Café Ambio in Backbarrow. From Bouth, I followed lanes to Causeway End, then crossing over the A590 for short detour through Haverthwaite before re crossing the A590 and doing very short section on it before following lanes into Backbarrow, where enjoy cup of coffee and cake at Café Ambio at Lakeland Motor Museum. After my afternoon café stop, I followed the lanes back up the Leven Valley to Newby Bridge. Then cycle path at side of A590 and then short section on A592 before following the lanes back through Staveley-in- Cartmel back to the carpark at Chapel House Wood.
