Ride report by Simeon Orme There were no other takers for the ride, so I headed up the Lune Valley Cycle path and stop a few times to take photos as it was bright sunny morning. After a few miles, I was soon joining the A 683 which I followed through Claughton before following the B 6480 around to Wray where I stop morning brew at the Bridge House Farm Tearoom. After my brew stop, I headed up the Hindburn Valley to Mill Houses where the snowdrops were out in full bloom. From Mill Houses, I started the climb out of the Hindburn Valley by following the lanes through the hamlet of Russells and around pass Hunter’s Barn before heading along Cross Lane to join Mewith Lane (It does have several names on the map but local cyclist’s know it as Mewith Lane) which stay on next several miles. I did notice that pushing against a bit of head wind as followed Mewith Lane up Wenningdale but there were good views of the mountains of the Yorkshire Dales to enjoy. After several miles I turn off Mewith Lane (which change its name to Eldroth Lane on the map) at Lane Side Bridge to follow Fummber Lane and then Orcaber Lane up to the A65 which cross over at Harden Bridge. Then headed through Austwick and then after about mile I turn off the tarmac at Mill Bridge to follow the bridleway into Wharfe. From Wharfe, I followed the bridleway up to Crummack Lane intending to stop for lunch at seat by the ford across Austwick Beck but when I got there it was already occupied by two walkers so continue on after crossing over the beck via foot bridge. I finally stop for lunch in Clapham after following Crummack Lane and then Thwaite Lane into Clapham. After my lunch stop I followed the Old Road over to Ingleton and stopping at Inglesport for afternoon brew and cake. From Ingleton, I followed the lanes through Thornton-in-Lonsdale and crossing back over the A65 at Westhouse, then it was more lanes as headed down the Greta Valley to Burton-in-Lonsdale. After heading through Burton-in-Lonsdale there was a bit of climbing to do get out of the Greta Valley and then follow the lanes over to Wenington where I join the B6480 again for the ride down Weningdale and then pick up the A683 for the ride down the Lune Valley to Bull Beck where rejoin the cycle path for the ride back to Halton Station.
