Ride report by Simeon Orme
Yes I know you were expecting some photos and ride report about ride to Twisleton End Scar, so I am sorry
disappoint you, I got side track by finishing off reading a good science fiction book by Craig Alanson, it was book
nine in his Expeditionary Force Book Series.
So did not set off on the ride until just before 12 o’clock and it do not help at this time of the year, golf
greenkeepers are lucky if they get one weekend day off to sleep in and Sunday was my day off, has I spent the
Saturday morning cutting the greens at work, I know its sound like it can be a pain, for those of you who are lucky
get weekends off but I am use to it, I have been working in greenkeeping for last thirty years, so when bedside
alarm do not go off at 5am to encourage you get out of bed and get some breakfast, then head off to work, you tend
enjoy those few extra hours in bed.
Anyway manage get on bike, headed out of Halton on Low Road, then joining the cycle path at the Crook n’Lune,
then after good mile heading up the Lune Valley on the A683 through Claughton before turning on to B6480 which
followed up Wenningdale, through Wray and Tatham before stopping for some lunch by the River Wenning at
Wennington.
The temperature had got warmer has left Wennington and soon turn off the B6480 to head up Spout Lane, the
historic farm buildings at Chapel House are worth stopping a few minutes to look at from the lane before cycling
on, I did stop again on Spout Lane to take photo of wild rose before heading along the public byway to Back Lane,
then in Old Wennington crossing over the county border into North Yorkshire, then after good mile I was heading
up Ravens Close Brow. I had another photo stop to take photo looking across the fields to Ingleborough, I put the
camera on tripod and use the Aperture Priority control on the Pentax K-70 to take photo at F22 which I am going
to do a bit more often now, has I bought another Pentax K-70 body the reason for this is less changing of lens, also
you can screw the head of the tripod (tripods are like bike wheels there a quick release on top of tripod to make
easier to screw camera on to the tripod) which you want use into the camera body before hand and less chance get
muck and dust inside the camera which can be pain when editing the photos afterwards on the laptop.
After the photo stop, as it was getting late in the afternoon, I decide to follow Burton Road into Low Bentham
where there was short section on the B6480 before following Eskew Lane out of Low Bentham, Eskew Lane soon
turn into Long Lane has head over into the Hindburn Valley for coffee and cake stop at the Bridge House Farm Tea
rooms in Wray before heading back down the B6480, then the A683 and cycle path back to Halton.
