17th September 2006 ride to Crake Valley and Furness Fells

It’s often that my Mum, Pat Lloyd come up to me on ride that I am leading and ask to show her on the map where we are!
After meeting at the car park at Cartmel racecourse, the nine of us followed the bridleway from the carpark through Lane Park, then short climb up Bank Side before another bridleway through Long Scar Wood, where we joined the B5277 and then headed into Holker Hall for our first café stop of the day as the Tea Room at the Southern Lakeland Nurseries and Garden Centre is closed on Sundays. After everyone had eaten we headed back up the B5277 towards Haverthwaite, with Mr Lloyd in the lead.
At Low Wood, we followed our normal off-road route along the Cumbria cycleway to Greenodd, where for short distance, we followed the A5092 to Penny Bridge where we off on to the lanes which we followed through the hamlets of Bridge End, The Nook, Benthaws and up to just before Broad Hawes Farm which we turn on to our next track which we followed through to Cotton Hill Lane, after short climb up the lane we turn on to our next track which followed through to Bessy Bank Lane. We then followed Bessy Bank Lane for about 500 yards before turning on to our next track, after passing through Hill Park Farm we stop for lunch.
After lunch we continue along the track to Bletherbarrow Lane where we then followed the white road towards High Ickenthwaite, just after ford marked on the map we followed the bridleway to Abbot Park Farm and then followed the lane down to Bandrake Head, we then followed the lanes through to Colton.
At Colton we followed the road up to the church and the white road over to Old Hall Farm at Bouth. We then followed the lanes through Causeway End and then climb up Hill Top before joining our next track at Finsthwaite House which we followed through Wintering Park before joining the tarmac again. We headed through Newby Bridge to the café on the A590 near Newby Bridge and after the café stop we headed back to cars at Cartmel via Canny Hill.
