Erika carnea ‘Winterfreude’ (Winter Heath, Winter Joy)
Information on the label: Evergreen shrub, mat-forming habit. Ultimate height: 15–30 cm (6–12 in). Ultimate
spread: 40–50 cm (16–20 in). Growth rate: Slow, reaching full size in 2–5 years. Foliage: Dense, dark green,
needle-like leaves that provide year-round structure. Flowers: Small, bell-shaped blooms in clusters, deep rosy-
pink to magenta-red. Flowering Season: Mid-winter to early spring (December–March), often continuing into
April. Flowers almost blanket the plant, adding vibrant color during the dormant season. Light: Full sun or partial
shade. Soil: Prefers well-drained, neutral to acidic soil but tolerates slightly alkaline soils. Moisture: Moist but
well-drained conditions are ideal. Pruning: Lightly trim after flowering to maintain compact shape and encourage
fresh growth. Avoid cutting into old wood.
Other information: Bought in December 2025 from Bay View Garden Centre. Planted in 10 L pot in Ericaceae
