Ride report by Lynne Rowbotham

The day started with a bang as Simeon’s rim exploded only yards from our meeting point. Maps and camera were delegated to Geoff and I, and after the usual café stop, ten of us set out for a 24 mile ride.
It was a lovely spring like day. Only a week ago the ground had been frozen hard, but now thawed some of the fields proved quite sticky and several tyre-cleaning sessions were needed. Ed, Geoff and Brian opted for a full tyre wash at the ford near Lupton. Although not intentional both Geoff and Brian had a foot rinse too. Our route took in lanes and bridleways via: Low Biggins, High Biggins, and New Biggin, quite a beginning, before dropping down to the ford. At Lupton it was straight over the A65 and on up the hillside, where we lunched. We sat enjoying extensive views extending from Silverdale, across Morecambe Bay and right across the Lakeland fells. It was clear enough to identify many of the peaks. Once we’d had our fill we continued northeast on two long stretches of bridleway linked by quiet lanes passing Tarnhouse Tarn. Later crossing the river Lune and on to Barbon. We even had time to call in at the Old Station House café before finishing back at Devils Bridge.
It was an enjoyable ride in good company and lovely weather.  Shame you missed it Simeon!
